Nov 8 is the International Day of Radiology!!!

Let’s take a trip down memory lane shall we…on this day in 1895, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered what he called X-rays. Did you know that they were given that name because they were a previously unknown kind of rays?

This discovery opened up a new and exciting outlook in medical diagnosis and treatment. First came the X-ray machines. CT scanners (which combined the power of x-rays with computing to obtain 3D images of the inside the body were a natural. Each step was an innovation and advanced medical diagnosis and treatment in huge leaps. Results can be obtained and treatment planned within minutes!

Today Radiology plays a very crucial role in practically all aspects of Healthcare. This is demonstrated by this year’s theme which is focused on Sports Imaging; a specialized area of Musculoskeletal (MSK) Radiology.  MSK Ultrasound, CT, MRI, and MSK Interventional procedures are dedicated to the diagnosis and image-guided treatment of sports-related (and all other types of) injuries, such as shoulder, knee, hip and ankle issues.

Accurate diagnosis and image-guided treatment are critical to returning an athlete to top form. Anyone with a bone or joint issue can benefit from MSK radiology for accurate diagnosis and in some cases, treatment. This is now standard of care, as elite athletes like Tiger Woods have benefitted from.
